How to care for your new items

Seagrass-Materials.jpg

All of our products are made of natural materials so they need special care to ensure they last until you are ready to compost them. Unlike those nasty plastic products that last for multiple life times and build up in our oceans.

Golden rules to follow:

Keep items in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. The sun can bleach, dry out or warp some of our products so it’s best to keep them out of the heat.

If it gets wet: Dry with a towel or leave in a sunny, well ventilated place until completely dry. Mold loves wet natural materials so it’s best to make sure any items that are wet get dried out properly.

Product life depends on the usage & preservation of each piece. Woven seagrass and bamboo items are often found in museums as they can last decades when kept properly.

 Baskets

Dirt and dust can be removed with a dry brush or a good pat, they don’t mind the vacuum either.

Any signs of mould can be treated with a spray of vinegar an afternoon in the sun to dry out and a quick brush to remove any particles.

Reshaping a basket is as simple as getting it wet and packing it out or squishing it down into the desired shape before letting it dry.

Reshaping our woven baskets and bags.

If your bag or basket has a shape you don’t like it’s very easy to change.

Wet it.

Spray the bag or basket with water. You can run it under the shower quickly or use a spray bottle.

Shape it.

Reshape the item however way you like. You can stuff it with towels, peg it or put something heavy on top of it. All our items are super strong so don’t be afraid to push and stretch them.

Dry it.

Leave it somewhere warm and well ventilated to dry fully. You could also leave it in a sunny spot until it’s totally dried.

Do it again.

If you need to! You can keep wetting and reshaping your items as long as they are fully dried in between.
